2011 Nominee: M.O.D.O.K. by Scott W (as debuted at DragonCon 2011)
Did you miss the nominees for the SCF’s 2011 Most Epic Male Costume? Take a gander!
From the SCF: The definition of “Most Epic” is very much open to everyone’s own interpretation. “Most Epic” could well mean you found the costume to be of extremely high quality (OMG that looks like it came out of Hollywood!), or it could mean you thought the the costume was so incredible due to the character’s obscurity (I can’t believe someone made that!) or that it was amazing since it was so huge or expensive, or any other number of things. It’s up to you to decide. Costumes must be new for 2011.
SCF members nominated and voted, and while the results are in, we would be remiss if we didn’t take some time to show off the nominees and give all of their hard work the appreciation it deserves!

Alan Turing - Codebreaker
Stacked Slate Sculpture
Turing is widely considered to be the father of computer science and artificial intelligence.
During the Second World War, Turing worked for the Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park, Britain’s codebreaking centre. For a time he was head of Hut 8, the section responsible for German naval cryptanalysis. He devised a number of techniques for breaking German ciphers, including the method of the bombe, an electromechanical machine that could find settings for the Enigma machine. After the war he worked at the National Physical Laboratory, where he created one of the first designs for a stored-program computer, the ACE.
Turing’s homosexuality resulted in a criminal prosecution in 1952, when homosexual acts were still illegal in the United Kingdom. He accepted treatment with female hormones (chemical castration) as an alternative to prison. He died in 1954, just over two weeks before his 42nd birthday, from cyanide poisoning. An inquest determined it was suicide. (wiki)

WW2 - French African POW’s
“During the western campaign, the Wehrmacht (unified armed forces of Nazi Germany) murdered several thousand black African POW’s from the French Army. German Officers ordering or tolerating the killings felt authorized by the traditional stigmatization of black men in Arms. “
The footage below was used in war propaganda films throughout Germany and occupied France.
